iLight Festival

I'm super excited to share with all of you the iLight Festival happening right now at Marina Bay! I'm always on a lookout for things I can do in Singapore without spending too much money; like visiting museums or second hand stores.

The whole night trail was such a refreshing experience. Those light installations were so beautiful to be seen in the dark; my camera did not do them justice at all!

I did not finish the entire trail. Here are some of the installations I managed to capture to the best of my ability:

The Light Dam by Uno Lai

Deck Journey by Zulkifle Mahmod

These are deck chairs placed along the waterfront. It only lights up when someone seats on it! Super energy saving!

5QUID by Ryf Zaini

This giant squid like object that responds by lighting up in rainbow colours when its sensor is waved at. Super pretty in reality. A must see!

The Gate by Li Hui

This one has to be everyone's favourite. It's mysterious and reminds me of secret agent movies. The emitted laser is real! Literally burns when stared into directly.

See! Everyone was so curious over this installation. Including me! (looking like I have chicken pox.)

Illumination Disorders ||
This one was made from various recycled materiels like umbrella and nylon fabrics. Really impressive for junk to look this good.

Free coffee?! *DANCES*

Yep. Free, hot Nescafé for you and your friend as you make your way through the trail.

Bibigloo by Bibi

An igloo made out of 250 jerry cans (used to contain fuel)! The artist intended his creation to raise awareness about global warning and melting ice caps. Very thoughtful of him.

The inside is lighted by a network of light bulbs.

Coral Garden by Olivia d' Aboville

No doubt this has to be my favourite. My photos doesn't do them justice at all. They're arranged in little clusters across the field.

Close up - coloured lights shining through a layer of clear fairy lights

I loved those lights so much I pixelated them and made it my wallpaper. Kind of reminds me of galaxies and my blog layout. Feel free to download, share the love!

Denim vest - Bugis street, maxi dress - Forever 21, shoes - Vans

Ending off with my outfit of the day.

Chunky arm party!

Pretty Boy

I'm never a blazer person, unless it's for school presentations. The idea of wearing a blazer was ridiculous to me cause of Singapore's humidity and heat. Yes, I like how smart and sleek I look in it. But the thought of perspiring with a made up face is not a pretty sight.

Things change. (And get better)

I invested in an Uniqlo blazer months back as part of my formal suit.  Two days ago as I was planning my outfit I realized my Cotton On boyfriend blazer was washing. In a hurry, I grabbed my Uniqlo one as substitute. To my surprise, not only the cutting so much more flattering, it did not cause me to sweat a bit. Maybe it's the material, I don't know. Afterall, Uniqlo is known for its comfort and style right?

Blazer - Uniqlo, shirt - G2000, skirt - Daniel Yam (second hand from Salvation Army), oxford shoes - Esprit

Basic leather belt - Uniqlo

Very proud of this skirt I purchased second hand for $5 from The Salvation Army store! It's by Daniel Yam! I love finding vintage designer pieces.

Unique collar details accessorized with metallic necklace from Diva

I do fancy those collars with metal tips but don't you think the metallic buttons of this shirt make great impressions too?

Spike earring by ASOS, purchased second hand

This fierce earring is my favourite at the moment! I love metallic accessories so much.

Slits - a HUGE trend this year. I go for mini.

Face of the day - androgynous makeup

I was inspired by this awesome tutorial to recreate an androgynous makeup look to go with my outfit. This look focuses on a well contoured face yet remaining clean and polished. You want to embrace masculinity but not look like a man. You get what I mean.

Key products I have on:
Revlon PhotoReady foundation (half a shade darker than usual)
Elf contouring blush and bronzing powder
MAC eyeshadow in Cork
Maybelline Eye Studio powder in 01 Dark Brown
MAC lipstick in Creme D' Nude

Green reptile bag by Perllini

This bag has been taken out way to much and probably for the whole of 2012.

Hope you enjoyed this pretty long entry! This year is all about looking pretty and feminine and wearing all sorts of bright colours but somehow the opposite will always be more appealing to me.

We'll see. (:

Rihanna In Timberland Boots

This is Rihanna rocking some basic Timberland boots during her performance for Brit Awards 2012 (watch here)! As if her legs aren't hot enough... She just proved a point that you don't need designer to look fabulous. As a fan of Rihanna, I notice her wearing boots a lot on stage. Do a Google search and see for yourself!

I love how she always mixes tough girl elements with her feminine side. It seems like she never had to deal with a fashion mishap. Rihanna's an inspiration to me. Good job RiRi for always amazing me with your sense of style and stage presence!

Designer dress for less!

I was inspired by Nicole and Aimee on how they rocked a simple white dress to such perfection. Here I am dressed for a dinner event. Stay with me till the end of the post to find out how much my outfit costs.

Self-manufactured dress by Dressabelle

Dress inspired by Giambattista Valli:

(Source: 1, 2)
The original dress is pretty, but for USD$700+? No thanks.

Green reptile bag - Perllini

I've said this many times but I have to say it again. I think Dressabelle is really considerate for making sure their dresses remain modest; meaning no VPL. Even for WHITE dresses! I cannot emphasize how much I hate clothes that cannot be worn without adding a tube/ slip etc.

Gold studded pumps with gorgeous metallic heels -  Charles & Keith

Pairing white overalls with gold accents easily made my outfit look expensive. Try wearing white and gold together, you can't go wrong! Not convinced? See Paris Hilton at the Grammys.

Outfit Breakdown:
Dress - $27
Shoes - $30+
Bag - $45
Sum total: $102

(p/s: Thank you all for the lovely comments I've been getting! I love reading every single one of them and really appreciate it <3)

A Week's Worth

Holidays are here so I finally have the time to do the things I love. I want to build a better portfolio, produce better contents for this blog (feel free to give me ideas!), catch up with old friends, introduce myself to illustration and maybe make some money.

My life in a week:

Nude Zara leather pumps

Firstly, a pair of shoes I splurged on - nude leather pumps. Yes, it was a difficult decision but I made my mind anyway because I believe it's a good investment. Yes, it's Zara and pricey but I swore I'd wear it often (cost divided by wear!). I couldn't find any other pair that was made to such perfection... Nude pumps are timeless and versatile. Besides, pointed shoes are in trend right now. Think I have made the right decision. Go get a pair for yourself before they're gone off racks!

With model Tisha at Dressabelle's shoot

Made my first visit to Dressabelle's studio (yep, the cozy pink studio you'll see in their videos). The people there were really sweet and hardworking. I can't wait to embark on even more exciting projects with the team!

Meet Rover, the adorable poodle receiving love from his owner

Had a great time at Desiree's playing with Rover and watching movies like we did during secondary school days.

Blouse - New Look, blazer - Cotton On, jeans - Forever 21, shoes - Tegan by Dr. Marters, bag - Perllini

My dad returned home from Qatar!

Lips: MAC lipstick in Angel, MAC lipglass in Lady Gaga

All attention on the lips! I've been really into glossy lips recently, though they're the most annoying thing when hair gets stuck. Here, I have some cream blush, a coat of mascara, tamed brows and barely any foundation, yet I look pretty made up. I find myself running late all the time, that's why I rely on vibrant lip colours. A 2 minutes lip is quicker and makes just as much impact as a 20 minutes smokey eye. Try it for yourself :)

The basic skater

Skater Dress - Dressabelle, platforms - JC Lana Fab, Clutch - Shanghai

There must be a reason why every girl is raving about the skater dress. Did you know that the term "Skater Dress" originated from the mini dresses athletes wore during figure skating? Its beautiful silhouette and flirtatious hemline makes the dress look amazing on ice, the runway as well as on all body types. The skater dress is a basic that every girl should own. It'll definitely come in handy sooner or later, I promise.

Sun hat - Daiso, collar necklace - City Plaza

I wore my basic skater dress with platforms and a matching nude envelope clutch.

Couldn't stop twirling!

Goes really well with a sun hat too! Added a collar necklace to go with the trend and more fun to my outfit.

(I avoid those trendy sequin collar blouses because I believe they'll come and go. I try to invest only in classic pieces, that is why I purchased a collar necklace that only costs me $16.90.)

Hope you found some inspiration in styling a basic skater dress rather than to wear it alone!
