Advert: Picks from Kwerkee

As someone who constantly seeks new design inspirations for my humble bedroom, I picked out two interesting pieces I wish to incorporate into my space. Let me share with y’all!

Guess what is this…

Woouf Paris
This is actually a beanbag in the form of a suitcase! Just imagine an object like this sitting at the corner of your room, or perhaps used as a bedside table (which I’d prefer), so cheeky and adorable! Comfy too.  In the similar product range, other items in disguise include a stack of ‘magazines’ and even a Rubik’s cube!

The Wild & Wolf 1950s Diner Phone is an interesting one. It brings back so much nostalgia from my primary school days when I used payphones to call my mother, way before the age of mobile phones. I also like to associate payphones with American men in suit and Fedoras and maybe with a roll of newspaper on hand. This phone has a rotatory dial and a full-featured coin bank with lock and key ringer control. Calling a friend may take longer but the fun is definitely worth the time!

Those items can all be found at Kwerkee, a concept by Reebonz. They carry a whole range of unique and quirky (as the title suggests) lifestyle goods and heavily promote design inspiration. Products are shipped in fancy biodegradable boxes and paper bags!

Kwerkee is a membership-based site where anyone can join for free. There will be 2 to 4 events daily, with all items sold at up to 70% off retail price. For instance, the Nespresso Coffee Machine is $318 onsite, much cheaper as compared to $398 in retail. Free shipping applies for all items (within Singapore and Malaysia)! Hooray!

Swing Swing

Studded leather jacket - Cotton On | Crochet tank - The Juice Market | Fringe skirt - Forever 21 Suede boots - Topshop

Spike earring - ASOS | Watch - Casio

Photos by my dear friends Joanne and Dione

Earlier this week as I was in town running some errands, I ended up going on a shopping trip all by myself. I couldn't resist! Just a girl being herself. The best buy of my day was a basic fringe mini skirt. It swings merrily with every step I take...maximum impact, minimum effort!

I have been listening to the Burlesque official soundtrack non-stop for the past week and Tough Lover has to be my favourite, followed by But I Am a Good Girl. Those are the ultimate pick-me-up songs that make mundane trips to school a lot more pleasant. I have to refrain myself from dancing and twirling in public. It's amazing how the right music can generate positive thoughts.

Today I'm feeling all girly in my minty chiffon dress and knitted shawl. It seems like mint is really growing on me... It's hard to say no when a colour like this compliments my skin tone so perfectly. I feel that it injects just the right amount of colour without overpowering.

On a random note, I really love the greenery and landscape in HDB areas of Singapore. Thanks to landscape designers, I am fortunate to enjoy beautiful gardens and fresh air everyday. The slogan "Garden City" lives up to its name. If you haven't been noticing, it's time to appreciate the little things in life that we take for granted.

Vintage Glam

Imagine living in an apartment where the old meets new; where the French baroque mantelpiece and sleek kitchen counters exist in harmony. Is that modern or vintage? Maybe this is the definition of contemporary design. I love the white against the dark floors. Transparent dining chairs and the clever use of mirrored storage make the apartment look more spacious than it really is, stylish yet functional!

Unicorn Mail

Guess what came in the mail today...

Unwrapping a parcel never felt this magical...I felt like a child again!

I received my parcel from Lime Crime!

I was filled with excitement upon opening the box filled with some extra goodies. Gosh, even the receipt is purple. *SCREAMS* As a sucker for fancy packaging, Lime Crime has definitely got me hooked.

When I finally unwrapped two layers of purple paper, lo and behold! There lies my lipstick encased in a their signature purple tube with a glitter unicorn.

Lime Crime Opaque Lipstick in Airborne Unicorn

The reason why I chose to purchase a purple lipstick out of the nudes, wine and pinks was simple. Purple is my favourite colour and I love lipsticks! Initially, I was uncertain if purple would suit Asian skin tones but upon applying the purple flatters my complexion surprisingly. Scroll down and you'll see how the colour works beautifully without the help of any eye makeup (I only have on mascara). Again, this varies from person to person.

My mini review of Lime Crime Opaque Lipstick:

  • Packaging (5/5) - No doubt! The pictures say it all. I feel that a lot of thought had gone into the packaging to make their customers feel that their splurge was worth the money and to me, the packaging is just as important as the brand name. For Lime Crime, the brand image runs consistently from its products to website and packaging.
  • Service (5/5) - Yes, excellent customer service always wins my heart over. My enquiry was replied in less than 3 hours and my parcel reached me in 13 days. All about the speed!
  • Colour payoff (4/5) - I love that the colour payoff is true to tube. You can be pretty sure of what you'll be getting just by looking at the tube. It took me about two swipes to cover my lips fully. Super pigmented! The only thing I dislike: it does stains your lips. It wouldn't come off with tissue or licking. However I believe some will take it as a plus point because the stain simply means prolonged staying power.
  • Scent (5/5) - Love that it is almost scentless with just a hint of vanilla. (Comparable to M.A.C lipsticks) Some may prefer fruity/ flowery scents but I prefer otherwise.
  • Texture (4/5) - The lipstick goes on extremely smooth and creamy. It is decently moisturizing but I find the texture tends to 'sink' into the lines of my lips without the help of pre-applied lip balm.
  • Price (3/5) - F.Y.I. I paid a total of SGD$34 after the conversion rate and shipment. I feel that the price is reasonable but can be lower. A M.A.C lipstick only costs SGD$28. However, considering the awesome packaging and great product, I am willing to spend.

Overall - I am really satisfied with the lipstick in every way. Lime Crime carries a wide range of lipstick and glosses in the craziest colours - blue, green, lilac, yellow, black. You name it. At the moment, purple seems most wearable for me but I am definitely eyeing for more. I would recommend the lipsticks to girls who aren't afraid to wear colours on the face. No point buying the prettiest shades but end up as diaplay on your vanity.

Rosette

Rosette sweater - Evil Valentine | Pencil skirt - G2000

Ribbon earrings - Diva | Gold watch - Casio | Nails - Revlon in Sheer Pearl

Zara heels

I can't seem to get enough of white clothes recently. It's funny how white clothes are slowly balancing out the black ones in my wardrobe, leaving about 20 percent colours in between. I found this gorgeous sweater recently at an online boutique Evil Valentine. The 'rose petals' create such an interesting texture and reflect tons of light onto my face. That's another reason why I am loving white clothes. I recommend you girls to check out the store because I personally enjoy the unique selection they cater. Besides, I experienced good customer service and my address was professionally printed out. (I do not understand why some established online stores still choose to write by hand) I believe I saw something similar in Zara months ago and it was love at first sight. My readers will know that I tend to save on clothes and splurge on shoes so no way will I spend $60 on just a sweater! Shop smart! :)

Thank you Mandy for always taking great pictures <3

The Peplum

Today's outfit was inspired by Victoria Beckham. Notice anything different today? I'm free from my usual stack of armparty! Victoria is often seen in either mini skirts, shift dresses or long gowns. But all share one thing in common; a tiny clinched waist. Her outfits usually focus on creating a structured/ exaggerated silhouette and minimum accessories. To me, Victoria Beckham is the definition of "Less is More" when it comes to fashion.

Executive Peplum Blouse - Dressabelle | Pencil skirt - ASOS | Bag - Shanghai

Peplum is one of those things that's universally flattering. It doesn't matter if it's a skirt, dress or top.

If you are stick-thin like me, you get curves, instantly! Pear shaped girls will be glad to know peplum hides any bulge amazingly well. Foor busty girls, a v-neck peplum blouse (like the one I'm wearing) will help balance out the upper torso.

Just like the classic skater dress, peplum is just as good granting us an hourglass figure.

This metal belt came along with my peplum blouse. It's detachable too.

As a guide, pair peplum tops with fitting bottoms because opposites attract. (most of the time) I am wearing my favourite magenta pencil skirt from ASOS!

Colour-block platform heels - Payless (I got mine from Payless store in JCube)

Presenting the 5.5 inch platforms in its full glory! Those are the most colourful heels I own to date. Absolutely in love. You might be surprised to know they only cost me $39.90. Pretty worth it huh? They're sturdy, chunky and very good quality. I walked half a day in these today, no complaints at all.
