Back to Basics

Chiffon blouse - streets of Taiwan | Cigarette pants - Zara | Basic sandals - Zara

Charles&Keith purse (a much cheaper alternative!), in the style of Alexander Wang

Gold chain necklace - Forever 21

What is your definition of 'basic' pieces? To me, they must be versatile, flattering and comfortable. Just like the LBD, my basics must go with everything else in the closet. It took me so long to convince myself to splurge on basics instead of trendy fashion...because on days when I have 'nothing to wear', I always go back to the same few.

Harry Potter The Exhibition

Enjoying a cup of Kopi at Toast Box

Finally headed to see the Harry Potter Exhibition at The Art Science Museum last saturday. This is already my third time there (previously seen: TitanicAndy Warhol). I probably have missed out my entire childhood from the whole Harry Potter sequel; did not even finish the first book. I used to think it's the language barrier, but as time passed it was pure laziness to pick up books to read. Nigel, however is an avid fan! Following him through the exhibit was like watching a child beaming with curiosity and joy. Even though I could barely name more than five wizards, the exhibit was overall very enjoyable. My favourite sections were the giant's home and the centaurs (so freaky!). Just wished that the exhibit lasted longer though...way too ridiculous to have finished seeing everything within 45 minutes.

Outfit of the day:

Rocking red lips: Loreal Color Riche lipstick in 297 Red Passion

Mermaid scale clutch - Zara | Spike bracelet - m)Phosis

Sweater - Mom's | Maxi skirt (tied into a knot) - City Plaza | Lana Fab Platforms - Jeffrey Campbell

If you have been following me, you may notice that I wear this silver sweater wayyy too much. (Previously seen: 1, 2) This is what happens when something works so well with the rest of my clothes!  Inspired by the very stylish Rachel of Style-Societe, I tied a knot on my maxi skirt for a change. A great way give those deserving shoes a peek-a-boo!

Have a splendid week ahead my dear readers! Photos by Nigel and I.

Hello Sailor ~

Stripe sweater - G2000 | High waist shorts -  Jurong Point | Watch - Casio

Gold glitter pumps - Taiwan, $15.30

In the midst of a busy week filled with deadlines and having nobody to help me with pictures, a tripod and natural sunlight really work wonders. Switch on the fan at full blast for the "wind-in-hair", editorial-worthy look. Anyway what I want to say is, try to work with what you have! I remember when I first started as a makeup artist, all I had was a roll of brushes that were prickly and shed like crazy. The fact that I couldn't afford good quality brushes pushed me even further to perfect my skills.

Anyway, hello new shoes! How ironic, I just said "work with what you have" yet I'm showing you these. But then, a new pair doesn't hurt when it's only fifteen dollars right?

Wedding Bells

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

1 Corinthians 13: 4-7

Hipster cupcakes with mustache spotted at the church reception!

I truly think marriage is one of the greatest joys in life. It is a gift to love and be loved, to live your life with a companion, to love somebody more than you love yourself. Last Sunday, it was heartwarming to witness two individuals unite in marriage. Being able to see two close friends of mine married was almost unbelievable. To think of being held responsible for somebody's happiness is scary, yet when we look back, some of us would agree that it was all worth if after all. To me, weddings are living testimonies to prove that love can work out if two people are willing to work hard for their relationship. I always feel overwhelmed during weddings; feeling hopeful that happily-ever-afters are not just fairytales, but rather, a reality for those who commit their hearts fully.

Moving on to my outfit of the day:

Cocktail dress - Salvation Army, $12

Surprise surprise! In the midst of frantically picking out a wedding appropriate dress I found this beautiful dress that has been long forgotten. Without hesitation, my decision was made! This blue-toned shift dress with lace overlay was I found at the local charity store. It was of perfect condition when I discovered it, such a gem! With some accessories and chunky black heels, my outfit was complete.

I wish to witness my girls getting married to men who truly loves, respects and protects them. Wishing all of you a happily-ever-after!

Baroque on Baroque

Photos by Lim Kai Sheng

Just a little preview of the shots taken last week for a friend. An afternoon snapping around the run down neighborhood produced pretty awesome results in my opinion, don't you think? I always love shooting at places that are not perfectly "done up". And much thanks to my photographer for his hard work and detailed editing, I'm loving this set of photos.

My apologies for the lack of updates; I am currently in Taiwan for a study trip! But the availability of internet in hotels makes life a lot easier. Promise I'll share with you some of my experiences soon!

Dark Floral Things

Just a quick post sharing with you some of the things I bought recently...

Lace pointy flats from Mondo, $24.90
1. Lace flats

I have been looking for lace flats for quite awhile now, especially when mesh and transparent things are trendy at the moment. This pair from Mondo is exactly what I wanted and easy to walk in, isn't hard on the wallet too. The red insoles sold me.

iPhone case from ahbengshop.sg, $14.90

2. iPhone case

I was recommended by Sarah from IcyAbstract to get this cool iPhone case and wow, my phone is now absolutely beautiful to look at and to hold. It's not made of silicon; it's plastic, making it easy to slip into my pocket. Also, the case actually consists of 2 separate parts - the bumper case and the design back that slides on.

I highly recommend you guys to get it from Ahbengshop. For $14.90, you get:

  • The case (consisting of 2 separate parts)
  • 2 screen protectors
  • Microfibre cloth
  • 2 sets of headphone jack & connector protectors
  • 2 years warranty

Their service attitude is excellent. My order was shipped in less than 5 minutes after my payment was verified at 11.54pm. Talk about business commitment... Definitely check the site out if you're keen to purchase some accessories for your gadget!

Fashion Feud - Poshism x Zouk

So last Saturday I made my first visit to Zouk (and a club) to attend the Fashion Feud event held by Poshism. Being my first fashion event, I was brimming with excitement as I walked into the crowd,  didn't really know what to expect. Girls and guys were dressed at their best, my eyes were overwhelmed with the kinds of style every fashionista had to showcase.

Even the cupcakes at the dessert corner had Poshism tags on them, how cute?

One of my favourite contestants was Nabilla from Temasek Polytechnic. I've admired her personal style from the very beginning of Fashion Feud competition. She was often seen in wide leg pants so the peplum blouse and a pencil skirt was such a refreshing change. The fact that Nabilla designed her own outfit was remarkable, she definitely rocked the look!

Another favourite of mine was Anzahari from Temasek Poly. He made a huge impression to the crowd with his bizarre sense of fashion but I really do love his creations. Anzahari designed his own outfit for the night too! I am so in love with the satin dress/tunic he's wearing, fashion with no boundaries indeed.

Expectedly, Anzahari was crowned the winner of Fashion Feud! I think he deserves it. The crowd had just witnessed an uprising fashion designer...

During the event, I also bumped into some local bloggers who write blogs I personally adore! Also, thank you to all those who came to say hi, I really appreciate it. :)

With Jiawen (thank you for showing me around!) and the eccentric Rachel of Style Societe. Her  blog is so inspiring because it reflects her unique and unpredictable style.

Met the ever gorgeous and classy Fatiha of In Heels & Wedges! Totally rocking her bright red lips and body-hugging dress. And her little sister too, who was really sweet!

With Nigel, Minji and Michelle of Ready To Swag. It was a pleasure to meet y'all!

Outfit of the night:

(On Mandy) Pleated tunic - H&M | Jeggings - Uniqlo | Nude pumps - New Look
(On me) Rosette sweater - Evil Valentine | Python pants - m)Phosis | Heels - Zara

Of course, not forgetting my dear friend Mandy and the boyfriend who has been supporting and loving me<3

In the goodie bag, I found stickers, vouchers, beauty samples and a full sized gel eyeliner all enclosed in a (very stylish) envelope! Everyone loves freebies, right?

Ending off with a face shot for those of you who are interested in the makeup. Basically, I did a purple smokey eye with highlighted inner corners and smoked crease. I wore false lashes so that the eye makeup would photograph better at night. My skin was kept matte with contours and highlights. Then, I finished off with purple lips - Airborne Unicorn by Lime Crime.

Last but not least, thank you Poshism for the wonderful night!
