Gold Rush

Not sure if you have noticed that I have been really into wearing halters and turtle necks lately. If you too are a skinny girl like me, you would know that plunging necklines never seem to flatter anyway. Some people would poke fun of my collar bones about how they can collect a reservoir of rain water. but I can't care less to be honest with you! Getting my head into a tiny turtle neck can really be a pain some times but luckily more are made with back zippers nowadays. I feel like turtle necks really show off the collar bones, and makes me look like I have better posture. Since I suffer from scoliosis (fun fact), I am always searching for clothes that can 'straighten' me up. :-( Collars really help if you have a hunched back!

Here is how the dress looks like on its own. I have naturally narrow shoulders so necklines like this make my shoulders more pronounced. My mother always tell me necks and hands reveal the first signs of aging, so a lot of older women actually wear scarves to hide problem areas. Personally, another reason why I love turtle necks is the fact that they bring all the attention to your face! Turtle necks can be very sexy too! Think secret agents e.g. Tomb Raider 

Camila Oriental Clutch - c/o KLARRA

My outfit was kinda inspired by this intricately designed clutch. That explains the black and gold colour palette. This flat clutch fits a fair amount of stuff surprisingly and my favourite detail is the tassel! You guys know me. But of course, the highlight of this clutch is its gorgeous laser cut leather layered on top of a metallic gold base. Even my mother approves! I think the complexity of its design adds oomph to any plain outfit. It's also appropriate for dinners and musicals. My heart almost died when I realized it doesn't fit my laptop...what a pity because it'll make a perfect laptop case!

At this point, I'm sure you have noticed I wore my dress in three different ways. I am not a minimal person so wearing it alone is too plain for my taste. For a structured look, I shortened my vest (by tying a knot at its ends then hanging around my neck) then reshaped my waist with a belt. Since the vest part is fluffy, a peplum effect was achieved. The last look is simply wearing the vest over and allowing the drapes to flow freely. As a result it creates a straighter silhouette for days when I just don't want to feel constricted with a belt. Do not underestimate the power of a Little Black Dress!

Junk Sweater

Cropped knit sweater - ZARA | Jeans - River Island (second hand)

The ZARA sale is right now and obviously, I couldn't resist visiting all three outlets along Orchard Road. It must have been a miracle for me to only check out with one sweater (phew). Well technically it was my mother who kindly paid for it, even though she couldn't quite understand why I liked a grumpy mustard knit. But I thought the 'inside out' seams look super rugged and cool for casual days. It reminded me of a  potato sack.

Body harness - c/o O'ORO (yet to launch)

I have been looking for a body harness for so long, and stopped ever since O'ORO sent me one. I LOVE IT! I used to look all over Topshop and ASOS but never found an ideal. Some were too expensive, some were overly exaggerating with skulls and studs. Harnesses can look provocative, you know. When worn appropriately, they look super edgy with a plain white tee or maxi dress.

I love having my pixie slicked back mostly but I'm taking a break today for a more relaxed style. I'm still in the midst of discovering different ways to style my pixie. Which one do you prefer?

PJs 2.0

Minimal sandal heels - Taobao (similar here)

You have no idea how often I wish to just head out the door in my pajamas. Well, nobody really does that in real life, unless I had a huge backyard where I can nap in a hammock. Taking cues from comfort factors of my pajamas, I created a look that is casual and polished at the same time. 

And a fun fact: I have worn an actual pajamas bottom out to Orchard Road before. Yay or Nay - you decide.

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of pajamas is either stripes or polka dots. That's the classic two-piece PJs, usually with a collar and is made of cotton/ satin. I picked out a thin chiffon blouse to base my outfit on. This is a much more subtle choice for those who don't fancy the actual PJ top with collars and pockets. I prefer loose to tight blouses because it's more airy and comfortable. The button-down panel detail also makes it less formal.

Palazzo pants - c/o Dressabelle (old)

Palazzo pants are the best things to own if you love skirts but hate your movements restricted. They're like the sister of skorts. Plus, they are super flattering on all body shapes. I could have gone with silk track pants today but I thought a palazzo made so much more of a statement. You can be casual and still bold!

Round sunglasses - Shanghai

The footwear choices for this outfit is limitless. On a lazy day to meet my friends, a simple flip flop will do. If you're shopping or walking a lot for the day, a pair of fancy sandals or pointed flats are classy choices. But since I wanted to look more glamorous for this shoot, I settled for these basic sandal heels that are really popular in the blogosphere right now. It's hard to not fall in love with its simplicity!

The Wallflower

In social situations, a wallflower is a shy or unpopular individual who doesn't socialize or participate in activities at social events. He or she may have other talents but usually does not express them in the presence of other individuals.

I'm on the cover and editorial spread for MODA Magazine Issue 02! This is by far the most high fashion photo shoot I've ever done in my life. I don't consider myself a professional model but blogging had given me a lot of opportunities to be part of crazy random projects. For that, my heart cannot be more thankful. 

I received a text message from Gladys for this project just two days after I got a pixie haircut. I thought to myself, "oh no...what a great timing to model...", but Mark a.k.a. the hair magician had the ability create miracles out of nothing, literally. How do you like my new locks? I received lots of questions  from friends if I wore a wig or was the pixie cut a prank. I loved the braids so much and they reminded me of Wednesday Addams. Michelle painted me perfectly arched red lips that were a total waste to wipe away at the end of the day. White sparkly eyeshadow is never a conventional choice in the makeup world but she made it convincing. Even in the most humid situations, Reyme and Gabriel were able to dress me up the best way possible. Oh and did I mention, those guys made the two flower crowns! Total overachievers for making that from scratch. The whole shoot was a great experience and it wouldn't have been possible without a dedicated team of creative minds.

First and foremost, can we all take a second to appreciate the sick photo processing we have on right here? Did autumn just happened? We all know how problematic it can be to work with the abundant greens but miraculously, we found the most random field of fallen leaves and it worked beautifully with  today's theme. You see, old leaves wither and fall as a natural growth cycle and dry leaves decompose to boost the soil's nutrients and fertility. Must we always rid dried leaves of its existence on our pathways?

Leather backpack - Saint Jack (mom's vintage)

Dressabelle normally offers super girly dresses but I was surprised to notice this vibrant native dress. The clash of colours and wild swirl of prints is beyond amazing. It comes in a basic shape with a tailored waist and spaced out pleats. It's made of linen which is super comfortable to wear even on the hottest days! Because I thought wearing the dress alone was too plain for my taste, I threw on an earthy toned cardigan. Its slouchiness makes any outfit more laid back and approachable, and the olive green tones down the red. I normally gravitate towards black and white but recently I have been appreciating the versatility of neutrals.

We also found a small tent made out of twigs and leaves. I have never seen one in real life, maybe cause I'm not an outdoor person. I was happily kicking leaves around and imagined dancing in circles around a bonfire. A girl can dream.
