Roccoco Kent Vintage

Overview of Roccoco Kent as you enter the store

Fun Fact 1. Roccoco Kent does not hold any special meaning. It was named after the owner's (female) pet dog, and 'Kent' was added to make it sound more masculine.

I'm always on the hunt for  thrift and vintage shops in Singapore. Vintage shopping is like walking into a museum of old, relatable things that tell a story and available for sale. From the positive response I've gotten from previous thrifting/ vintage shopping posts, I have since made a commitment to document my visits so you guys can go too! Not everything interesting in Singapore is easy to find. For this, I owe it to Nigel for always being able to discover quirky places that tend to be hidden from the majority. Read on!

Roccoco Kent
753 North Bridge Road #02-02, Tangerine S(198721)

First up, vintage furniture. In the furniture section you can find big pieces of furniture mainly sourced locally. The shop itself is tiny but do not underestimate its size...it holds a good amount of things that'll keeps your eyes moving for at least half an hour. Personally I consider all vintage shops as a good source of interior inspiration because no matter how much junk it holds, the thoughtful owner always make it charming somehow. Organization in chaos, you know?

Fun Fact 2. The robot (bottom right hand corner in the pic below) was used to serve Sushi in a restaurant. That explains the tray!

Moving on to the vintage clothes and accessories section. Apparels were quite limited but there was a good collection of vintage bags ranging from brandless to Chanel and YSL. Jewelry were a joy to look at too and some of the items were tagged with its respective era, which is always fun to know.

Fun Fact 3. That is a skull of a deer.

Fun Fact 4: The above is a (professionally) restored  vintage school desk.

Overall, I really enjoyed my vintage rummaging at RK and learning about owner Emmeline's love for collecting vintage. She's such a friendly person to chat with and willing to share her knowledge with amateur vintage shoppers like me. Nothing beats the feeling of heading down to a vintage shop physically.

Be sure to add Roccoco Kent to your to-go-list, no more excuses for saying "I have nowhere to go"!

Fun Fact 5. Nigel purchased a framed wall clock from the seventies.

Denim On Denim

Has anyone ever told you, "never wear plaid and denim together or else you'll look like a farmer's daughter"? Or "denim on denim is so outdated"? I have been told, so many times. You know what, people who like to set rules on what you should and should not wear don't know better. During my poly days, some of my classmates told me wearing sneakers with a dress is weird. Look at them now, decked in Supergas and skater dresses (ironic?). Initially I was embarrassed by people's comments but eventually I learnt that your style is entirely up to you. In this post, I'm going to show you how denim can work with plaid and it's totally cool I promise.

Denim jacket - second hand | Plaid shirt - c/o Dressabelle (old collection)

The best way to layer denim on denim is to choose two separates of slightly different shades. As the texture of denim is naturally dense, the difference in shades will bring contrast and dimension. I like to wear my denim jacket with sleeves scrunched up for a more relaxed vibe.

Denim dress - c/o Dressabelle (similar here)

My collection of denim dresses constantly expands because I simply love them for comfort, versatility and durability. I also look for special details like this one; it has an open back and exposed zipper which is great for me who doesn't like much of my chest exposed. It's also easy to transform your look from party to school appropriate with only an outer wear.

Creeper wedges - Underground

I think plaid shirts are staple pieces for everyone. You know how sometimes, like on your first day of school, when you want to look presentable without being overly attention seeking? A plaid shirt is the perfect thing for awkward/ uncertain occasions. Plaid shirts serve as cardigans to me because they're lightweight and perfectly okay to wrinkle. In this post I've worn them layered and tied around the waist.

Vintage Cadali 'Taylor' watch - c/o Late Rabbit

The amount of bracelets I stack on my arm fluctuates from excessive arm candy to minimal, but 99% of the time I have my watch on. I am not picky with my watches except for: 1. It must be timeless looking and 2. good quality. Before this, the only ones I wear were my Casio ones. I am so excited to tell you all about my latest addition!

This vintage Cadali watch was gifted to me by Late Rabbit. All the Cadali watches from them were sourced from France! Its dainty leather straps, minimal watch front and crystal (at the 12 o'clock) is just beautiful. It felt strangely familiar when I first wore them on my wrist, as if it belonged to me all along. That's the kind of charm vintage jewelry express over time.

Revlon matte lipstick in Wine Not

On a random note, my pixie is growing out so fast it's getting annoying. I jumped onto the hair pomade bandwagon recently and so far I have been enjoying the shine it gives. My boyfriend comments that I am slowly turning into a gentleman haha! So do I look like a farmer's daughter to you? You be the judge.

White Sheen

Curved hemline maxi dress - c/o KLARRA

Soiree silver heels - Jeffrey Campbell

Eyelets  blazer  - c/o Dressabelle (also in black)

Sequin scale clutch - ZARA | Sally Hansen nail polish in Lacey Lilac

Chain body harness - c/o O'ORO

There is something about white clothes that keeps you looking refined no matter the difference in textures existing in a single ensemble. Besides, it only makes sense to choose white over black under the merciless heat. I love a maxi dress for hot weather because it's super simple to put on and easily dressed up with nice shoes.

This is my first ever white maxi and also one of the more formal ones which I find appropriate for weddings and special occasions. I love how the weight of the dress maintains a structured silhouette, giving it extra formality. Generally, I'm super impressed with its design and quality. Saying that this dress is made by a 'blog shop' would be an understatement. Love the thigh-high slit! It doesn't hurt to show off sandals, gladiators or statement heels for my case. I decided to layer with a white blazer, keeping within the same colour family. Since the dress is silky smooth, the eyelets gave it some texture without looking overly matchy matchy. To toughen things up a tad bit, I accessorized with a chain harness and silver jewelry. The overall look is polished and edgy.

P.S. Pretty sure this outfit would look fun with a pair of white converse sneakers. Saving it for a casual day out!

Sorry about the lack of outfit posts over the last week as I was more or less occupied with Phantom Of The Opera. My instagram friends would know how much of a blast I has and honestly, I'm not over the Phantom craze. I am listening to the Phantom soundtrack album on repeat as I'm writing this post. Call me crazy, I am.

I have been wearing plenty of turtle necks and cold shoulder tops lately. During Feist Heist's revamped launch beginning this month, I saw this peplum blouse and knew it had to be mine. I remembered telling myself, "okay, here I am splurging beginning of the month so that means no more clothes for me in July." Let me tell you, I have no regrets at all and holding up to my promise pretty well! *pats on the back* I've gotten plenty of wear out of the blouse already and It's great with skinny trousers and pencil skirts, complimented loads by friends. I crown it the blouse of the month!

Interview With Starved. Magazine

Me, along with nine other international bloggers were interviewed about how summer is like in our country and how it affects us fashion wise. I screen shot my portion for your convenience but I urge you to read the rest of the article because I personally love imagining how it's like to live someone else's life! That explains my excessive vlogs addiction. Ever wondered what's everyone's summer essential (everything from denim shorts to hair spray)? Anyway, I hope you got to know me better through this short feature. :-)

A big thanks to Starved. who decided to interview me!
