It's officially less than a month to Nigel and I's month long Europe trip. I'm feeling jittery and excited, making endless lists in my head. I can hardly contain myself, because I have never travelled out of Asia (besides to the middle east that one time) in my entire life, neither have I spent a month away from home. But it feels great to run away, get a change of scenery and open my eyes to the real world where it's cruel yet filled  with forgiveness. Imagine meeting strangers whom I would begin friendships afresh, reside in a temporary apartment where I can myself and it's okay. No strings attached. Imagine seeing Victorian castles and historic European architecture all in front of me...how I have dreamt all these years and they're finally turning into reality. Can I take the adrenaline when it comes? Will I be quick to document and secure those memories forever? Or should I stay still and live in the moment? Will my eyes capture all that happens in a day? This sense of rebellion and need for adventure; maybe that's what drives people forward in their twenties. I never want to lose this passion. Perhaps, the wild wild world out there is simply a better place than home for now.

Happy Valentines' day!

I have been itching to shoot another 1920's inspired look since last Halloween. My hair was real short then, and those impromptu "dance" moves really got me into character. I personally really love flapper girl styles but if the drama isn't for you, here is a subdued alternative.

The headpiece is an iconic accessory for any flapper look, and this one looks straight out from The Great Gatsby movie. Seriously, it's pretty damn close if you Google it! A dramatic adornment is  the perfect answer to my low maintenance hair. It is excessively embellished in diamonds and pearls and laced at the back with pale yellow ribbon.

Flapper silhouettes are generally modest and forgiving. I didn't have anything that concealed the waist line so an elegant high collar dress was my best bet. The all-over lace added so much texture so little else was needed.

However you are going to spend the romantic weekend, I hope this look might urge you to try something fun and new. With Singapore's dress culture which very much prioritises functionality and convenience, it's really nice to pick glamour once in awhile (when you have the time to spare of course).

Ta-dah! So after several weeks of ultra polished corporate wear absent from colours of the universe, I'm back with an outfit which IMO is more in my element. Pardon me as I go through a phase of blazers, pencil skirts, anything that screams 'I-mean-business'...you get the drift. But hey, as I witness the happenings from fashion weeks of London, New York (I mean, is it even possible to scroll through your Instagram feed without seeing people on that front row?),  I cannot help noticing the return of military wear. Not talking about camouflage ones, but as in double breasted coats, trench coats, safari bags etc. My heart is soaring, it's about time we leave those florals behind. Uniform is huge this coming season, a style with so much poise and conviction. I cannot wait to update my collection of boots and outerwar, conveniently blaming it on how ridiculously cold it is in school. I'm officially dressing for fall season with my olive green trench/ parka hybrid. In contrast to a typical trench, this one is soft to touch and slouches effortlessly. I kept my colour scheme conservative but amped up my skirt with a knot just so my laid back style is differentiated from shabbiness. Yup, that's a trick I do for any oversized maxi dress or skirt. Try it out! You might love it.

It's always interesting to relook at fashion from a certain era in history. As I have learnt in fashion school, how people dress is almost always a reaction towards an event. For instance, big shoulder pads in the 1980's symbolised power as more women entered the workforce then. Personally, I really love how glamorous women were in the 1950's, an era of the tiniest waists (since the Victorian era) and red lipsticks. To make this vintage look seem more convincing, I even curled my bangs!

Dressing like a fifties girl isn't complicated, in fact it's one of those styles that is flattering on anybody. Colours do matter, afterall being the first element that most people notice in an ensemble. Think of colour combinations you wouldn't normally wear such as red & green, yellow & pink etc. To avoid looking overly tacky, simply wear the accent colour in small amounts. The fifties is about having a perfect hour glass silhouette that is so feminine in every day. So as a rule of thumb, anything that gives structure but still tapers in at the waist would be on-the-spot. It's no wonder this dainty yet ravishing style is so well loved by women till today.
